Orchestral Compositions and Arrangements

Sinfonia Concertante

Commissioned by the LSO to open its centenary season and premiered at the Barbican under Sir Colin Davis
Soloists: Rod Franks, David Pyatt and Andrew Marriner
Available for hire from Richard Bissill

Fast, slow, fast it went; perky pitched percussion spangled the orchestration; horn and trumpet counterpointed lugubriously in the central soft-focus rhapsody; and the finale fizzed with tricksy ideas and jazzy rhythms.
Hilary Finch (The Times)

Christmas Carnival

Commissioned by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Christmas Carnival won the first-ever Peter Knight Award for arranging, sponsored by the Musicians’ Union and Yorkshire TV. Recorded by The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, The Hallé Orchestra and The Royal Scottish National Orchestra.

Excerpt

Best by a mile was Christmas Carnival, by Richard Bissill – full of syncopated buzz, ingeniously enjambed carols, stunning orchestration, and terrifically played. A palpable hit.
Roderick Dunnett (The Independent)

Rhapsody for Piano & Orchestra

Performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra with the dedicatee soloist, Philip Fowke.
Available for hire from Richard Bissill

Excerpt

Richard Bissill’s Rhapsody For Piano And Orchestra was a delight. But this was not pastiche – but a fond remembrance – a splendid evocation of a style and of an era of British (film) music to be treasured. Technically a brilliantly accomplished piece of work.
David Wishart (recording producer)
